Il a deux significations : (1) Négation, suivi d'une racine verbale ou d'un adjectif ; par exemple dans tsiafadambo ( tsy, afaka et lambo : dont même les sangliers ne peuvent se débarrasser) ou dans tsiafofoka ( tsy et afofoka) : qu'il ne faut pas jeter. (2) suivi d'un substantif (généralement un autre nom de la plante) redupliqué ; par exemple : tsiakondrokondro (de tsy et akondro : la banane) : qui ressemble un peu à la banane. O. Chr. Dahl, dans « Malgache et Maanjan : une comparaison linguistique », Oslo, Egade-Instituttet, 1951 a constaté qu'on retrouve cette forme en maanjan (une langue du Sud-Est de Bornéo).
