C'est surtout Vernonia secundifolia var. dolicholepsis Humbert ined., qui est commune dans toute la partie orientale du Betsileo, aux confins du pays tanala. Cet arbuste ne résiste pas aux feux de la brousse (voir Boiteau 4640 in Herb. Jardin Bot. Tananarive). On lui prête de grandes vertus médicinales. Il contient effectivement une lactone diterpénique qui mérite d'être étudiée. Encore appelé masiposaina. [Betsileo]
